I just finished this last night and thought it was one of the best books I have read in a long time. It wasn't an easy read because it was plain to me from the start that this was not going to be a happy story. It kept me up late at night because I couldn't put it down, but at the same time I found it so upsetting that I had a hard time making myself pick it up. I like books that make me think and that evoke real emotion, and this one definitely does. I had to keep reminding myself that this story was not true and I shouldn't be so upset. I love my dogs, and the dogs in the story are one thing that really drew me to it, but I don't think you have to be a dog lover to enjoy it.
